Do you have cataracts? Are they making it more challenging to do basic tasks, like using your phone or computer?

If you’re having cataract surgery, one of the decisions you need to make before the procedure is what kind of IOL you’re going to get. During cataract surgery, your eye’s natural lens is removed.

Removing the natural lens also removes the cataract that’s developed on it. Your natural lens is then replaced with an intraocular lens or IOL. The IOL takes over the function of your natural lens, ensuring you can see clearly after the procedure.

However, there are many kinds of IOLs, including some that can provide you with better vision than you had before cataracts. Keep reading to discover 5 reasons why a premium IOL can help if you like using a computer and what that can mean for your vision!

Premium IOLs at St. Luke’s at The Villages

When you have cataract surgery at St. Luke’s at The Villages, you can choose our Lifestyle Vision package to get a premium IOL. Premium IOLs help you see even better after having cataract surgery.

They can help you improve your life in many ways, and a premium IOL is the perfect option if you like using the computer! These IOLs help reduce your dependence on visual aids like reading glasses and ensure you can finally achieve the clear vision you want.

What is Lifestyle Vision?

St. Luke’s at The Villages offers three cataract surgery packages: Monofocal IOL, Astigmatism Reduction, and Lifestyle Vision. The Monofocal IOL is the standard option and is included in the cost of cataract surgery.

The Monofocal IOL is an IOL that can help you see well at one distance, either up close or far away. You’ll still need visual aids to see at the opposite distance. If you have presbyopia and need reading glasses, you’ll still need reading glasses after having cataract surgery with a Monofocal IOL.

Some people can get monovision, which involves putting one Monofocal IOL for seeing up close in one eye and another Monofocal IOL for seeing at a distance in the other eye. Monovision allows some people to see well between the two distances, but not everyone can adjust to monovision. Monovision also doesn’t provide you with the clearest vision at all distances.

Our Astigmatism Reduction package is slightly more expensive, and it has a toric lens that can correct astigmatism. However, the Lifestyle Vision Package is the premium option.

It includes the PanOptix Trifocal Lens, one of the most advanced premium IOLs on the market. The Lifestyle Vision Package also features the PanOptix Trifocal Toric lens, so you can correct astigmatism while achieving the most versatile vision possible!

Premium IOLs can give you incredible vision while making using the computer, phone, and tablet easier. Here’s why:

1. The PanOptix Trifocal Lens is One of the Best IOLs Available

The PanOptix Trifocal lens has three sections set to different refractive powers. The first section is for seeing up close, the second is for seeing far away, and the third is for seeing at a middle distance.

With the PanOptix Trifocal IOL, your eye automatically looks through the best part of the lens, ensuring you can see clearly. Whether looking at a book, a screen, or a street sign, it will help you always see clearly.

The trifocal lens is superior to other lenses because it helps you see at a broader range of distances, not just up close or far away. The PanOptix lens also allows you to see especially clearly up close and at a middle distance while still seeing quite well at a distance.

Its design makes the lens one of the best for using a computer. You’ll see clearly, whether in dim lighting or bright, thanks to the PanOptix Trifocal IOL!

2. Better than Monovision

Monovision is often popular, but many patients can’t adjust to it. If monovision works for you, many cataract surgeons recommend it if you spend a lot of time on the computer.

This is because monovision offers good vision between the two focal points to which either lens is set. It works well if you’re viewing something at an arm’s length away, like a computer screen.

However, the PanOptix IOL is better than monovision because it offers better vision up close and at arm’s length. If you choose the PanOptix Trifocal lens, you won’t have to sacrifice clear vision up close to see well at intermediate distances.

Instead, you’ll be able to see a computer screen with more clarity. Whether or not monovision works for you, a premium lens like the PanOptix may be your best option if you want your best vision when using the computer!

3. Have Safer Eyes

If you can’t see very well at a middle distance, you tend to hold whatever you’re looking at closer to your face, especially if you’re using reading glasses. Holding things closer to your face can cause you to sit too close to the computer or have your phone or tablet too close.

Having your eyes too close to a screen can have harmful effects like eye strain, fatigue, dry eyes, and headaches. With a premium IOL like the PanOptix Trifocal lens, you’ll no longer need to get as close to a screen to see well.

The lens will allow you to see very well at a safe distance so you can use your computer, phone, or tablet without straining your eyes. You’ll be able to see better, be more comfortable, and have healthier eyes!

4. Find Freedom From Reading Glasses

Premium IOLs reduce the need for prescription glasses and reading glasses. This is especially true with the PanOptix Trifocal lens.

Most patients who chose the PanOptix trifocal IOL report that they never or rarely ever need to wear reading glasses after selecting it. Without visual aids to worry about, using the computer will be much easier!

5. Fix Your Astigmatism

If you have astigmatism, seeing a computer screen clearly can be challenging. A toric lens can help you correct mild astigmatism, allowing you to see better.

The PanOptix Trifocal IOL also comes in a toric version, so you can get all the benefits of the PanOptix lens and astigmatism correction!
